Loving my neighbor as myself, thoughts on current and hot topics, inspiration, music, art, and poetry

Sounds easy enough; seeking God first means before I go to work, I seek the Lord right? It says in the Ten Commandments, “no other Gods“, so this is where it gets a little more complicated. It means before breakfast, coffee, early morning exercise, and whatever else. Whaaaat? I can handle most of those things, but coffee? Really?

No Legal Pattern

Listen, I am not going to give you some kind of legal pattern to follow, because I have found that to be pretty unrealistic anyway, but God will put this desire in you to seek Him first. I have found a way to cheat a little on this: Pray and read a few verses, and then break out the coffee, and continue my morning devotion. Technically that fulfills the command. Right? Lol.

Also, I think God knows our struggles in the mornings, and when you think about it, it’s not an invitation to God from you, but an invitation from God to you, and may include coffee in the morning with your study.

Invitation From God

Just even thinking about how to put God first in the morning can be dismal while its morning, and I don’t make good decisions in the mornings, because I’m tired. Everyone has there way of doing it, so we can’t please everyone, but our relationship with God is a free relationship, and we can’t earn our salvation, so worrying about coffee shouldn’t be something we struggle with.

In fact, when you think about it, worrying about these issues becomes a God, defeating the purpose. It’s really the heart that matters, and at times we do need a disciplined morning fast, while just seeking Him.

This or That

I wanted to share a good supplement verse I was reminded of! (Eccl. 11:6) “In the morning sow your seed, And in the evening do not withhold your hand; For you do not know which will prosper, Either this or that, Or whether both alike will be good.” Let that sink in!

So, our relationship is not about fulfilling the basic obligations with the Lord, but going over and beyond in generosity, by adding a little study and prayer before bed in addition to our morning devotions, and blessing and serving others

Dear Jesus, make my mornings the way you designed it to be, and teach me to put you first. Amen
